The Swiss broadcaster has announced they will have an internal selection for Eurovision 2024.
The Swiss broadcaster has confirmed that the country will once again be using an internal selection to find their song and singer for Eurovision 2024.
The submissions window for artists, producers, songwriters and lyricists will open on Thursday 10th August at 09:00 CET and will close on Thursday 24th August at 23:00 CET.
Each song that is submitted must not exceed 3 minutes, must be an original song and cannot have already been released or performed. Songs can be submitted in any language, but must not contain any political, racist or violent lyrics.
It is also possible to submit a song without a singer attached to it. In this case, the song must include a demo voice singing the song, and it must be stated whether the singer wants to go to Eurovision or not.
All interested persons must be at least 16 years old as of May 1st 2023, and must be available for rehearsals from January 2024, and for promotional events from February to May 2024.
The selection process
As has been the case since 2019, Switzerland’s Eurovision entry will be decided internally via a multi-stage selection process involving the public and juries. The broadcaster has revealed that this years selection process will have a more international focus.
Switzerland’s Eurovision 2024 representative will be decided by a mix of Swiss audience juries and international audience juries. Both of these jury panels will be involved in several of the selection rounds, with the audience juries being supplemented by a 25-strong international expert jury.
Since switching to internal selections in 2019, Switzerland have achieved some great Eurovision successes so far. In 2019, Luca Hänni brought Switzerland back into the top 5 for the first time since 1993 when he finished in 4th place in the final.
2021 saw Gjon’s Tears winning the jury vote, and finishing 6th with the televote, giving Switzerland another top 5 placing overall as they finished in 3rd place in the final. Switzerland achieved two further semi final qualifications in 2022 and 2023 from Marius Bear and Remo Forrer, who finished in 17th and 20th place respectively.
