After the extreme success obtained in Rotterdam, the Roman band led by Damiano David conquers another important achievement: being nominated in three different categories at the MTV EMA 2021, to be hosted in November in Budapest.
On October 20, 2021, the official website of the EMAs revealed the full list of nominees for this year’s edition, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday, November 14. Between all these incredible acts, we could not help but notice that our favorite Italian rock band had been inserted in not one, but three categories. Måneskin‘s “worldwide domination”, as it has been described by their fans since May, led the band to secure themselves nominations as “Best Italian Act“, which is shared by other notorious Italian artists – one of them being Madame, already seen competing in Sanremo 2021 – “Best Group“, and “Best Rock“.
As we already know, the Roman group got incredibly popular in Italy after participating and finishing as runner-ups in the eleventh season of X Factor Italia, achieveing international attention following their victory in Sanremo and finally grabbing the glass trophy in Rotterdam. Since then, Måneskin never stopped: their Eurovision Song “Zitti e Buoni” broke the charts in Europe, while other singles, as their 2017’s cover of “Begging”, “Chosen”, and “I Wanna Be Your Slave” found extreme success all over the world. After a period of great hype, in October, the band released their latest single “Mammamia“, which, at the moment, has already reached over 10 million views altogether on YouTube (shared between the lyric video uploaded on October 11, and the official music video, released 2 days ago).
Eurovision artists at the EMA
A great number of Eurovision acts have already managed to obtain nominations and even win awards at the EMA in the past: for Italy we have seen Marco Mengoni (2010, 2013, 2015), Ermal Meta (2017), Mahmood (2019), and Diodato (2020), but the only one managing to bring home a regional trophy was Marco, who won “Best European Act” in 2010 and 2015. Other than that, Lena, ESC winner for Germany in 2010, won “Best European Act” in 2011, while Dima Bilan, Russian representative at Eurovision 2008, was awarded in the same category in 2012. Many other Eurovision artists took the stage at the EMAs in the past, most of them in their own national categories: among those acts Loreen (“Best Swedish Act” in 2012), Amir (“Best French Act” in 2016 and 2017), Loïc Nottet, (“Best Belgian Act” in 2017) and Maruv (“Best Russian Act” in 2019).
