Måneskin have released the hotly anticipated music video for their new single ‘MAMMAMIA’.
(EPILEPSY WARNING)
‘MAMMAMIA’, released earlier this month, is Måneskin’s second single after their Eurovision win in May, following the chart-topping hit ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’. The song is expected to be from their upcoming album, rumoured to be released by the end of this year.
In ‘MAMMAMIA’, the band pokes fun at the unfounded rumours which clouded their Eurovision win, proudly singing “I swear that I’m not drunk, and I’m not taking drugs / they ask me why I’m so hot, ’cause I’m Italiano.” Singer Damiano David explained, “after Eurovision, we had a lot of attention on us. A lot of the time, we did something that we thought was great but people criticised it. I wanted to translate that into the lyrics, because it happens a lot – maybe you’re doing something that you feel is great, but people don’t understand it and make bad judgements and bad comments about it. I wanted to make fun of that situation.”
During the Youtube afterparty for the ‘MAMMAMIA’ premiere, Måneskin explained what inspired the concept of the music video, in which band members Victoria De Angelis, Ethan Torchio, and Thomas Raggi brutally murder Damiano in various creative ways. Damiano said that it refers to “the cliché where the singer takes everything over and the band is just there. So they killed me to stop me from doing that”, while Victoria joked that “just Damiano’s personality inspired it.”
