A secret selection revealed
For the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, singer Louane has been selected to represent France. The news was revealed on January 30, 2025, by Le Parisien, which reported that the selection was made in secrecy within the halls of France Télévisions.
A few hours later, Louane confirmed the news on her Instagram account, sharing an emotional message: “You dreamed of seeing me there, Mom (…) I’m sure you’re proud, watching from afar. I will be representing France at Eurovision,” she announced in a short video. She, however, did not mention anything regarding the song she would bring to the stage but her last album was released in October 2024.

A carefully timed announcement
According to Le Parisien, the decision to choose the 28-year-old musician—who rose to fame through The Voice and the film La Famille Bélier—was made just a few days ago. Initially, France Télévisions had planned to announce it several weeks later, waiting for the outcomes of the Sanremo Festival in Italy and Sweden’s Melodifestivalen. These events annually crown the artists representing two of France’s strongest Eurovision competitors. However, the schedule was ultimately disrupted, prompting an earlier announcement.
Louane follows in the footsteps of Slimane, who finished just short of the podium last year with his song Mon amour. France has not won the prestigious international competition since Marie Myriam’s victory 47 years ago with her now-legendary song L’oiseau et l’enfant. Will 2025 be the year France reclaims the Eurovision crown?
Automatic qualification for the Final
As a member of the Big 5—the group of Eurovision’s largest financial contributors alongside Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom—France automatically qualifies for the Eurovision final, which will take place on May 17. Louane will therefore compete against twenty-five other artists, all hoping to claim the trophy.
