RAI has finally announced the names of the first 22 artists competing in Sanremo 2022, and you may already know some of these faces…
Who are they?
Their names have been on everyone’s lips for weeks. Many tabloid magazines have taken their guesses (some wilder than others), but only one of them hit the nail right on the head, so much so that RAI felt the urge to move up the date of the announcement. Legendary Sanremo host and artistic director Amadeus made an appearance at tonight’s RAI 1 newscast to read the names of the artists who will tread the boards of the Ariston theatre in February 2022. Here’s the list:
2. Dargen D’Amico
3. Gianni Morandi
4. Ditonellapiaga & Donatella Rettore
6. Highsnob & Hu
7. Le Vibrazioni
9. Massimo Ranieri
10. La Rappresentante di Lista
11. Ana Mena
13. Achille Lauro
14. Michele Bravi
15. Iva Zanicchi
17. Fabrizio moro
18. Mahmood & Blanco
19. Giusy Ferrero
21. Giovanni Truppi
The last 2 participants will come from the Sanremo Giovani contest, and they’ll be announced on December 15th.
Old acquaintances: Mahmood, Emma, and Fabrizio Moro
Eurovision’s sweetheart Mahmood is back, and he’s got back up. This year he’s teaming up with 18-year-old rising star Blanco, who has been topping the Italian charts all summer. Blanco has 3 songs in the Top 5 2021 Spotify Wrapped chart. Not bad for a beginner!
Remember Emma Marrone from Eurovision 2014? This is her now, feel old yet? All memes aside, Emma has been on a winning streak ever since. She released 3 studio albums (6 in total) and 1 live album, and she’s been on tour 5 times since 2014. Additionally, this is her second year starring as a judge on the Italian X-Factor, the TV show that unleashed Måneskin unto the world. If you’re feeling nostalgic, here’s her Eurovision 2014 performance in Copehagen. Enjoy!
Those who loved the Italian Eurovision entry from 2018 will be pleased to learn that one half of the “Non mi avete fatto niente” duo is back. Fabrizio Moro was selected by Amadeus to perform on the stage of the Ariston theatre in February 2022, although this time without his friend Ermal Meta, who came in third in last year’s edition of the Sanremo festival.
Other iconic artists
Come prepared for the party! Learn more about the artists competing in Sanremo 2022, as one of them will be representing the host-country of Eurovision 2022!
Elisa is one of the greatest singers and songwriters in Italy. She won Sanremo in 2001 at 24 years old, at a time when Italy wasn’t taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest, with her song “Luce (tramonti a nord-est)” (Light, north-eastern sunsets). Mahmood featured her on his latest album in the song “Rubini“, which they co-wrote with Italian producer Dardust. For those of you who don’t speak Italian, an interesting fact about Elisa is that she has a large repertoire of songs in English, so… dive in!
Gianni Morandi, class of 1944, is one of the icons of Italian music and television. Don’t be fooled by the date on his birth certificate: he knows how to keep up with the younger generations!
