Former UK head of delegation Dominic Smith has passed away

Unfortunately the former UK head of delegation, Dominic Smith, has passed away. 

Smith first became involved in the United Kingdom’s Eurovision team as an assistant head of delegation in 1998 when the contest was held in Birmingham. After that, he went on producing the United Kingdom’s national final “A song for Europe” as well as developing the show “Making Your Mind Up” together with Simon Proctor.

The UK debuted in the second Eurovision ever, in 1957. They have participated every year since 1959. Besides the 5 victories in 1967, 1969, 1976,1981 and 1997 The United Kingdom currently holds the record for most runner-ups, they finished second on 15 occasions! Some of the most memorable entries include: Congratulations (1968), Better The Devil You Know (1993), Teenage Life (2006) and It’s My Time (2009). At Junior Eurovision, The Uk has participated three times, from 2003- 2005. Their best result was in 2004, when Cory Spedding got second place with The Best Is Yet To Come.
