It’s already been a busy day of song reveals, and now it’s time for the Eurovision 2021 host country to present its entry. Jeangu Macrooy, the Netherlands’ representative, has just shared his new song, “Birth of a New Age”, which he will perform for his country in Rotterdam this May. The official music video will be released tomorrow, so here is the fresh live version performed during a live broadcast today:

The live event aired on the YouTube channel of Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS, as well as across social media channels of Eurovisie Songfestival, the official Dutch Eurovision website. At the event, Jeangu sang his new entry and sat down for an interview, where he also interacted with fans and journalists from around the world (including Eurovoxx’s very own Clara! We’re so proud!).

“Birth of a New Age” follows “Grow”, Jeangu’s entry from last year for the eventually cancelled Eurovision 2020. Soon after the cancellation, AVROTROS announced Macrooy will return for the following edition of the contest, with his entry chosen by committee of which he was a member. As with “Grow”, Jeangu wrote “Birth of a New Age”, which he intends as a message of hope for people in times of crisis. The English-language song incorporates a couple of lines in Sranan Tongo, a language spoken in his native Suriname.

What are your thoughts on Jeangu’s new song? Is there another victory in the horizon for the Netherlands? Let us know your opinions in the comments below!
