THAT moment from VASIL's Eurovision 2021 performance has made Reuters' 'Pictures of the Year 2021' just prior to Junior Eurovison debut!
In their annual retrospective of the year in pictures, international news organisation Reuters brought some North Macedonian glamour to the table, by featuring a magical shot of VASIL’s perfomance of Here I Stand in the Eurovision semi final.
The moment captured by photographer Piroschka Van de Wouw, was the moment VASIL rips open his shirt to reveal a mirrored vest projecting lights out to the crowd – a moment that captured the essence and message of his song perfectly. If you haven’t seen the image, click here to view.
He just can't stay away...
Vasil Garvanliev has acquired a taste for Eurovision. Not only did he perform as backing vocalist for Tamara Todevska when she brought home North Macedonia’s highest ever position in Tel Aviv, 2019 with Proud, VASIL was due to perform his latino inspired banger YOU at the following contest in 2020, which was eventually cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
VASIL was finally given his chance to represent his country solo when he was invited back with his emotional ballad Here I Stand at the contest in 2021 in Rotterdam, where he failed to make it out of the semi final, coming 15th with 23 points. In a post show interview with Eurovoxx live from Rotterdam, VASIL demonstrated that his performance at Eurovision was more than points or qualification, declaring ‘I feel so proud, because everything I wanted to do, I did… I remember getting off the stage, and literally I just cried!’
However, fast forward a few months since May 2021, and it became obvious that VASIL had declined a euro-break after his journey to Rotterdam, and is now back at Junior Eurovision 2021 in Paris as a song writer for the Bulgarian entry – Voice of Love – by Denislava Dimitrova and Martin Stoyanov.
