We already know them! Spain has announced the artists that will compete in Benidorm Fest 2022

As it was announced a couple of days ago, Spain has announced this Friday the 14 artists out of 886 candidatures that are going to compete in the Benidorm Fest 2022 to get a place in Turin for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

During the press conference Eva Mora, head of the Spanish delegation, was asked what criteria was used to choose the 14 artists to which she responded: “As to the criteria we have valued the rigor, which has been one of the main characteristics or lines to follow, the authenticity in the songs, in the candidacy and in the interpretation. Tolerance has also been one of the factors that we have tried to take into account, parity, the diversity of musical genres…”. Also, she wanted to take the opportunity to thank the 886 candidatures that have participated and let everyone know that it was not an easy decision to make.

Firstly, it was planned to announce 12 artists, but as Eva Mora said in the press conference, they decided to expand the number of the participants in 14 to give more variety and to make everyone feel represented.

With that said, here are the 14 artists, in alphabetical order, that will participate in the Benidorm Fest 2022: Azúcar Moreno, Blanca Paloma, Chanel, Gonzalo Hermida, Javiera Mena, Luna Ki, Marta Sango, Rayden, Rigoberta Bandini, Sara Deop, Tanxugueiras, Unique, Varry Brava and Xeinn.

Artists and the title of the songs for Benidorm Fest 2022:

At this press conference, apart from the announcement of the name of the participants, there was also the announcement of the titles of the songs with which they will participate:

Get to know about them:

Azúcar Moreno

Azúcar Moreno the duo formed by Toñi and Encarna Salazar are participating with “Postureo”. They began their musical career with their brothers in 1982, but a couple of years later the two sisters decided to start their own journey together in the musical industry.

In 1990, they represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest that took part in Zagreb, in which they achieve the fifth place with the song “Bandido” which became an absolute hit in Spain and in other countries. Also, during their performance in Eurovision they starred and iconic moment due to technical difficulties at the start of their performance.

So far, Azúcar Moreno has published 14 albums: their first album was “Con la miel en los labios” and it was published in 1984 and their last one is “El Secreto” and it was published in 2020.

Blanca Paloma

Blanca Paloma is an emerging artist who started as a stage and costume designer, but she discovered that she wanted to be on the stage.

She has performed in theatres and is going to participate in the Benidorm Fest with “Secreto de agua”, which is her first song edited in a recording studio.

Chanel

Chanel Terrero is an actress, singer and dancer who was born in Cuba, but since she was 4 years old, she is living in Spain.

She is participating with the song “Slo mo” which has been written by authors who have worked with Madonna, Black eyed pies, Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Mariah Carey or Nicki Minaj.

When she was 16 years old, she started working in the musical theatre participating in different musical such as The Lion King and Mamma Mía! And being the protagonist in “Flashdance”, “NINE” and more others. She has also worked in different TV-series and Dinner Shows.

Gonzalo Hermida

Gonzalo Hermida, who is participating with “Quién lo diría”, is a songwriter and singer who started his career when he was just 15 years old learning how to play the guitar, the ukulele and the piano and also, he self-taught how to use recording programs and musical production.

In 2017, he launched his first song titled “Intacto” and has worked with different national artists such as: Malú, India Martínez, Antonio José, Andrés of Dvicio…

Javiera Mena

Javiera Mena, who is participating with “Culpa”, is a Chilean artist living in Spain who is considered as an icon of the electro pop queer.

So far, she has released a total of 6 albums, but is working on another one to be launched in 2022. In 2015 she was nominated in the Latin Grammy with “Otra era” and has participated in different festivals like Coachella, Vive Latino, Primavera Sound

She has also collaborated with Julieta Venegas, la Casa Azul, Miss Caffeina and more others.

Luna Ki

Luna Ki is a multidisciplinary artist with a futuristic vision that is participating with “Voy a morir”.

After the launch of Luna’s first EP, “Unknown 2034” and “Septiembre” Luna Ki has more than 17 million visualizations in different digital platforms. Different media share the opinion that Luna Ki is creating the sound of a new generation.

Marta Sango

Marta Sango, who is participating with “Sigues en mi mente” is a singer from Málaga who made herself known in Operación Triunfo 2018 where she ended up in the 7th position.

 After Operación Truinfo, she started working in a musical called “La Llamada”. So far, Marta Sango has launched two singles: “Por ti” and “Qué más quieres de mí” that both of them have a characteristic aesthetic.

At the moment, she is working on her first album, recorded in a studio, that it’s going to be released this next year.

Rayden

Rayden, who is participating with “Calle de la llorería”, was one of the artists that share his enthusiasm to participate in the Benidorm Fest since it was announced.

He is a multidisciplinary artist who started with the rap genre, but has stood out for his ability to mix musical genres. He has collaborated with different artists like Rozalen, Pablo López, Bely Basarte, Leiva…

So far, Rayden has launched a total of six albums, but he has also written four books that have become a bestseller.

Rigoberta Bandini

Rigoberta Bandini, which is the artistic name of Paula Ribó, is a voice actress and singer who in the last years is becoming more known in Spain because of her viral singles in Spotify called “In Spain We Call it Soledad” and “Perra”.

Rigoberta Bandini has also written and directed her own play “Cinco tonos del color azul” and her music has been the soundtrack of some advertisement.

Rigoberta Bandini is participating in the Benidorm Fest with her song “Ay Mamá”.

Sara Deop

Sara Deop is an emergent artist that when she was 13 years old participated in the Voice Kids ending up as a finalist. So far, she has launched two singles “Zero drama” and “Bye bye”.

She is participating with the song “Make you say” which the authors of it have written for Dua Lipa, The Saturdays and Little Mix.

Tanxugueiras

Tanxugueiras the folk band formed by Aida Tarrío, Olaia and Sabela Maneiro are going to participate with their song titled “Terra”.

We first got to know about them after they won the poll that eurovisionspain.com organized with their song “Figa” to let the audience choose their favourite artist to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest.

As they let us know with the title of their song they are going to sing in Galician, one of the co official languages of Spain.

The Galician band has launched a total of two albums “Contrapunto” and Tanxugueiras and they are currently working on a third one.

Unique

Unique is a Latin pop boy band formed by Matt, Gio, Vale and Arman they are participating with a song titled “Mejores”. In their song they mix Latin pop and melodic balad sounds.

The band debuted in 2018 with “Tú y yo” but they have been releasing new songs since they started. They have participated in different events like LOS40 Principales and Megastar.

Varry Brava

Varry Brava the indie pop band formed by Aarön Sáez, Óscar Ferrer and Vicente Illescas are participating with “Raffaella”.

Varry Brava was formed during the summer of 2009 with the idea of ​​a fun, non-judgmental band. In 2012, they released their first album “Demasié” followed by four albums more, their last one “Hortera” was launched in 2020.

Xeinn

Xeinn which is the artistic name of Alejandro Agudín Arribas is participating with “Eco” a pop song.

Alejandro is graduated in Political Science and Public Management. After years of vocal and musical training, he began to upload covers on YouTube where he started to gain more recognition having more than 18 million views on his Official Channel.

In 2018 he launched his original debut EP called “Diversity” and in 2021 he launched his first album called “Pride of the Weak” that includes 11 singles.

Finally, during the press conference they announced that on the 23rd of December there is going to be another press conference to release more details about the Benidorm Fest 2022.
