Slovenia are shaking things up with a new national final selection process for 2024
The Slovenian Broadcaster RTVSLO has revealed their plans for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö next May. A new national final competition called ‘Misija Malmö’ will be held to discover the artist who will be flying the flag for Slovenia at next year’s contest.
‘Misija Malmö’ will also have new format, with four artists being selected to compete on the show for their chance to win their ticket to Malmö 2024. The remaining criteria of the competition is the same as Slovenia have had in previous years; all main performers must have permanent or temporary residence in Slovenia, the song cannot exceed the three minutes mark and the performer(s) must be at least sixteen years old.
In the lead up to Eurovision 2023 it was provisionally presumed that Slovenia would hold the same national final they had held in previous years, better known as ‘Evrovizijska Melodija’, or ‘EMA’.
However, there was a dramatic shift in plans as RTVSLO suddenly announced they would be internally selecting their entry for Liverpool, leading to excitement & speculation in the Eurovision community. It was of course eventually revealed that the incredible band, Joker Out would be flying the flag at Eurovision 2023. The Slovenian boy band finished in 21st place in Liverpool with a total of 78 points.
RTVSLO has now opened up the submission window for artists, composers and song-writers to submit their songs for Misija Malmö. The application process concludes on November 15th, with the lineup expected to be announced on December 11th. All will be revealed in the coming months as to the exact date Misija Malmö will be held, in the lead up to what will be a very exciting Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
