Slovenian participation confirmed with selection plans said to be revealed in October

The official new Eurovision year began at the start of this month, and with the deadline for countries wanting to enter next year’s Eurovision coming to a close, fans of the contest are eager to know which participating countries we will see in 2024. The next country to officially confirm their participation is…Slovenia.

Slovenia were well represented at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool by the popular young band Joker Out. Qualifying smoothly through to the Grand Final, Slovenia placed 19th with the jury (33 points), 16th with the televote (45 points), and 21st overall (78 points). Although this may not have been the result Joker Out were seeking, the band have gone onto the most incredible accolades since the contest, increasing their fandom significantly and even going on a European tour.

The Slovenian news site Zurnal24.si has recently reached out to the national broadcaster RTVSLO regarding Slovenia’s 2024 participation. In response, RTVSLO confirmed “The method of selecting the representative of Slovenia for the Eurovision Song Contest will be announced in October.”

News of how Slovenia will select their entry for next year’s Eurovision is now a highly anticipated subject, as the country has used both internal selection and national finals in previous years. While this year’s entry (Joker Out) were selected via internal selection, the year before in 2022 (LPS), Slovenia introduced a national final to determine the country’s representative.

Although it is not yet clear which route Slovenia will choose to discover their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, it is rumored that Slovenian singer & TV presenter ‘Raiven’ may be internally selected to represent her country at next year’s contest.  According to Zurnal24.si, Raiven is invited by RTVSLO on a regular basis to present talent shows and deliver live performances of her latest song releases; she has even expressed interest in taking part in the contest through social media.

It seems that more will be revealed in October as to whether Slovenia will choose to internally select as they did this year, or to revert back to a national final which they used previously in 2022.

Who do you think should represent Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024? Do you think Slovenia should internally select similarly to this year? Or would you prefer to see a national final? Let us know in the comments below!
