Six acts for Azerbaijan progress to the next round says Ictimai
Who will represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2024? Although the answer to this question is not yet known, we are however one step closer to finding out. The Azerbaijani Broadcaster Ictimai TV has recently confirmed that a total of sixteen acts have now been narrowed down to just six, who will advance forward to the final round of Azerbaijan’s Internal selection for next year’s Eurovision Song contest in Malmö.
Ictimai TV revealed that they had held live auditions for the sixteen selected performers in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku on October 29th. These initial sixteen acts were hand-picked by the broadcaster, which was alongside an open submission window for song-writers & musicians to submit potential Eurovision entries.
Once the open submission process concluded, 214 songs had been sent to Ictimai TV which have been said to include a wide variety of genres & musical styles. Ictimai TV has announced that the six remaining acts still in the running to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2024 are:
- Emy Lia
- İlkin Dövlətov & Mila Miles & Etibar Əsədli
- Aisel
- Fahree
- Qorqud
- Səbinə Quluzadə
The final six candidates include male & female soloists, in addition to a mixed trio; all of which will be hoping to fly the Azerbaijan flag next year in Malmö. Eagle-eyed Eurovision fans will notice that one of the six finalists in the above list, Aisel, has represented Azerbaijan before at the 2018 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal. She sang “X My Heart” at the contest, but came 11th in her semi-final, meaning she became the first Azerbaijani entrant not to qualify for the Grand Final at the contest.
At this year’s Eurovision Song Contest held in Liverpool, United Kingdom on behalf of Ukraine, Azerbaijan was represented by TuralTuranX with their song “Tell Me More”. Sadly they finished in 14th place in Semi-final 1 with 4 points only.
However, 2024 brings a new year of hope and prosperity, where Azerbaijan will be looking forward to bringing it’s best talent to the Malmö stage next May. More information will be revealed in the coming months by Ictimai TV as to who will win the internal selection and go on to represent the country at Eurovision 2024.
