Sam Ryder has stormed to the top of the charts with his debut album 'There's Nothing But Space, Man'.

After releasing his debut album on December 9th, the Eurovision 2022 runner-up can now confirm that he has a number one album to his name, reaching the top spot just one week later, after his album has become the most physically purchased and digitally downloaded album of the past week.

Sam Ryder’s number one album puts him as the first British male solo artist to debut at number one with their first record for the first time since 2019, when Sam Fender topped the charts with his debut LP, Hypersonic Missiles.

Sam Ryder has also become the first solo artist to debut at number one with their first full length album release since Sour by Olivia Rodrigo topped the charts in May 2021.

Sam Ryder has beat American superstars Sza and Taylor Swift to claim the top spot, with the latter artists occupying the second and third spots respectively with SOS and Midnights.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Sam Ryder couldn’t be happier at what he and his team have managed to achieve: It looks like Christmas came early, because we achieved a Number 1 record together. Thank you all so much. If you knew the amount of people who’ve worked so hard on this, it’d blow your mind. This is pure collaboration. It couldn’t have been done without so many fabulous, amazing, optimistic legends. I love you, peace!”

A star is born

Sam initially rose to fame in 2020, when he started to post music covers on TikTok, going on to become the most followed U.K. artist on the social media platform. This led him to sign with Parlophone, which led to the release of his debut EP, The Sun’s Gonna Rise in 2021, which has gone on to achieve over 100 million streams worldwide.

However, it wasn’t until this year that Sam’s career really took off. After achieving the United Kingdom’s best result in the Eurovision Song Contest with his smash hit Space Man, Sam’s music career has since been non-stop, with new singles, covers and performances galore!

Sam has performed at the Queens Platinum Jubilee concert, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Capital FM’s Summertime Ball, and was one of the opening acts for the National Television Awards. It has also been confirmed that he will have his own show on the BBC’s New Years Eve broadcast.

The new year is expected to be just as jam packed as the last, as he will embark on a sold out United Kingdom and Ireland tour in 2023.
