RTP have confirmed Portugal's participation in Eurovision 2024, and announce submissions have opened for Festival da Canção.
The Portuguese broadcaster has confirmed that they will be participating in Eurovision 2024 in Malmö. This will be the first time since 1992 that Portugal will be taking part in a contest on Swedish soil, having missed out on the 2000, 2013 and 2016 contests.
It has also been announced that submissions have opened for the 58th edition of Festival da Canção. All songs can be submitted here. The submissions window will remain open until Novemebr 30th 2023.
Festival da Canção 2024 will take place between February and March, and will be comprised of two semi finals and one final. Ten acts will participate in each semi final, with six acts participating from each semi to make a 12-song final.
14 out of the 20 entries will be determined by RTP, who will invite a diverse range of Portuguese singers and songwriters, representing various musical genres. The remaining six entries will come from open submissions, which is open to all Portuguese citizens or residents, living in or outside of Portugal.

Since returning to Eurovision in 2017, after a break in 2016, Portugal have seen great success, including their first win in 2017, and first hosting in 2018 in Lisbon.
Since then, Portugal have qualified for the final every year (except 2019), and managed to achieve two left-hand side finishes in 2021 and 2022. The country’s most recent participation in Liverpool this year saw Mimicat bring Portugal to the final once again with “Ai coração”.
