Well, have you figured it out yet?
Teya and Salena have released satirical dance song “Who The Hell Is Edgar?” which will represent Austria at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.
Who the hell are Teya and Salena?
Teya, 22, and Salena, 24, met each other while filming ORF casting programme Starmania 21. Both have been involved in music from a young age, with Teya gaining stage experience through playing in a jazz orchestra, while Salena performed at family gatherings and at school.
Both have also tried at participate for Austria at Eurovision. Teya participated in national selections for both Austria and Serbia in 2020, while Salena submitted a song for the Austrian selection in 2019.
Speaking with the Austrian broadcaster, Teya said:
“I wanted to go to the Eurovision Song Contest as a child, because it has always meant to me that even big dreams can come true, regardless of who you are and where you come from. I can’t wait for the first step on stage.”
Meanwhile, Salena said:
“I saw Conchita on stage at the time and told my parents that I wanted exactly that – a giant stage and people who feel music as much as I do. From this point on, I have worked even more on myself and my singing.”
Austria at Eurovision
Austria debuted at Eurovision in 1957, when Bob Martin performed “Wohin, kleines Pony?” and sadly came last. Over the course of their 53 appearances, Austria have infamously earned the honour of receiving nul points 4 times (1962, 1988, 1991 and 2015), more than any other country.
Austria have also managed to win the contest twice. Their most recent victory came in 2014 when the iconic Conchita Wurst took home the crown with their song “Rise Like A Phoenix“.
In 2018, Austria managed to reach 3rd place with Cesár Sampson and his song “Nobody But You“, winning the jury vote in the process. However since then, Austria has failed to make it back to the final. Last year in Turin, LUM!X and Pia Maria finished in 15th place in semi final 1 with their song “Halo“.
