Nikkie de Jager says no to spokesperson duties for Eurovision 2025.
Speaking in her Podcast Lightless Lounge, Nikkie de Jager, Dutch make-up artist and model, also known online as Nikkie Tutorials, has confirmed that she will not be the Dutch spokesperson for Eurovision 2025. Nikkie was all set to be the Dutch spokesperson in 2024, but pulled out at the last minute due to The Netherland’s disqualification from the final.
Speaking on the podcast, Nikkie’s manager Wes, brought up the topic of Eurovision, and more specifically who would be reading out the Dutch votes in Basel. Nikkie was quick to confirm that despite being asked, she politely declined the offer, confirming she is not the spokesperson “I’m not. It was my own choice. I think a lot of people will now think that I wasn’t asked anymore [after last year]; that I was pushed aside. That’s not the case.”
According to Nikkie, AVROTROS really wanted her back, but she did not feel like coming back due to the situation regarding Joost Klein and The Netherland’s disqualification at Eurovision 2024: “It was Joost’s story, but it also became my story a bit. For me, that circle was complete.” However, despite all that happened at Eurovision 2024, it hasn’t put Nikkie off Eurovision completely: “If we ever win, I hope I’ll get a call.”
Joost Klein was internally selected by the Dutch broadcaster to represent The Netherlands at Eurovision 2024 with his song “Europapa”. He made it all the way to Malmö for the contest, and qualified comfortably for the final, finishing in second place in semi final 2. However, that happiness was short lived as on the day of the grand final, the EBU confirmed that Joost Klein had been disqualified from Eurovision 2024 and would not be competing in the final due to Swedish police investigating a complaint made by a female member of the production team.
In light of this, Nikkie de Jager was all set to read out the jury points for The Netherlands in the 2024 final right up until the last minute. Nikkie could be seen reading out the points in the dress rehearsal for the final, but not long after, she confirmed that she would no longer be able to fufill this commitment, and that her decision was made together with AVROTROS. In the live final, Eurovision’s Executive Producer Martin Österdahl read out the Dutch points.
