In 2022, San Marino will use a brand new national final format to choose their entry for Eurovision. Following three years of internal selections, the smallest country in the contest have announced big plans for the upcoming contest.
The show will be called “Una Voce Per San Marino” (A Voice For San Marino), and will consist of multiple stages. First of all, entrants will compete in two separate categories, for either “emerging” or “established” acts. The established acts will be chosen by the organisers of the selection, whilst the emerging acts will take part in a preliminary stage from the 13th to the 19th December, and again from the 5th to the 11th January. These will be held in the 315 capacity Titano Theatre.
The grand final, comprising of 9 established and 9 emerging acts, is scheduled for the 19th February 2022. The final results, and San Marino’s song for Eurovision, will then be decided by a panel of expert jury members.
San Marino is no stranger to sending a singer from outside of its own borders, with Valentina Monetta in 2017 being the last person from the country to represent them. This may continue into 2022, with no limits being placed on citizenship of the singer or language of the song.
San Marino will be looking to continue their success in recent years, with fan favourites Serhat and Senhit & Flo Rida qualifying to the grand final in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
