Montenegro may be absent from the Eurovision Song Contest 2024

With around eight months to go until the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, news is gradually coming to the surface regarding which countries will be participating, and which will not. The attention in this instance turns to Montenegro, with rumors indicating that the Balkan nation will not be in attendance next year.

Reports of this news come from the media site “Cafe del Montenegro”, which is based in Montenegro, and regularly receives a variety of news outlets from the Montenegrin public broadcaster RTCG. Although RTCG have not officially confirmed or denied Eurovision 2024 participation, it seems financial issues have been a long-term issue for the Montenegrin public broadcaster.

This is not the first time Montenegro have withdrawn from the Eurovision Song Contest, with the nation not being in attendance in 2010, 2011, 2021 & 2023. The country made their first debut to the contest back in 2007, with their best results coming from Sergej Ćetković (2014, Copenhagen) and Nenad Knežević (Knez) (2015, Vienna) who both made their way to the Grand Final. However, Montenegro’s most recent entry Vladana with her song “Breathe” at Eurovision 2022, only managed 17th place out of 18 participants in the Second Semi-Final in Turin, Italy.

Montenegro have certainly had their fair share of good, average, and not so satisfying results at Eurovision, perhaps hindering their motivation to participate in next year’s edition in Malmo, Sweden. With the deadline for countries wanting to participate in next’s year’s contest having closed on September 15th 2023, all will be revealed in the coming months as to whether Montenegro will be in attendance in Sweden or not.

Do you think Montenegro will be participating at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024? Who would your dream Montengrin representative be? What’s your favorite Montenegrin Eurovision entry of all time? Let us know in the comments below!
