The Busker have won 'MESC 2023' with the song "Dance (On Own Party)" and will represent Malta in Liverpool!
The show took place at Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta’ Qali, hosted by Glen Vella and Amber Bondin. The winner was decided through 100% televoting.
The running order was as follows:
- Nathan – “Creeping Walls”
- Chris Grech – “Indescribable”
- Maxine Pace – “Alone”
- Fabrizio Faniello – “Try to Be Better”
- Geo Debono – “The Mirror”
- Brooke – “Checkmate”
- Ian – “On My Own”
- Eliana Gomez Blanco – “Guess What”
- The Busker – “Dance (On Own Party)”
- Giada – “I Depend on You”
- Matt Blxck – “Up”
- Cheryl Balzan – “La La Land”
- Christian Arding – “Eku Car”
- Ryan Hili – “In the Silence”
- Dan – “It’ll be OK”
- Stefan – “Heartbreaker”
The Busker won the vote with 121 points, with Ryan Hili coming in 2nd place and Matt Blxck in 3rd.
The result were decided using a system of 50% jury votes and 50% televotes. Matt Blxck won the jury vote while The Busker won the televote.
It should be pointed out that the song isn’t officially set yet, according to rules set by the Maltese broadcaster.
Malta have had good success at Eurovision since debuting in 1971. They’ve managed to finish in 2nd place twice, most recently in 2005 with Chiara and her song “Angel“. Last year, Malta failed to qualify for the final, with Emma Muscat and her song “I Am What I Am” finishing in 16th place in semi final 2.
