There are just a few months before the next Junior Eurovision Song Contest which will take place in Yerevan, Armenia. For now, nine countries have already confirmed their participation : Armenia (the host country), Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland and Spain. Now, another country has to be added to the list: Portugal.
The Radio and Television of Portugal (RTP) communications department said that the country will be participating in Junior Eurovision 2022. However, they still don’t know how they are going to select their candidate. They often d0 internal selections, but in 2021, Simão Oliveira was chosen as he was the winner of the Voice Kids Portugal.
Portugal debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 and obtained its best result with the 2021 representative, Simão Oliveira and his song “O Rapaz“, (“The Boy”). He obtained 11th with 101 points.
Junior Eurovision 2021 participating countries Albania, Azerbaijan, Germany, Italy, Malta, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine have all yet to announce a decision on participation in Armenia.
Some countries confirmed they won’t return, including Belgium, Montenegro and Slovenia, among others. Russia will also not be participating due to its broadcasters being suspended from the EBU.
