Diljá has won the 17th edition of Söngvakeppnin 2023, with the song “Power“, and will represent Iceland on the Eurovision Song Contest stage in Liverpool.

Differently from the semifinal nights, this time the artists were allowed to choose to perform the songs in the Icelandic or English version, in the following running order:

  1. Sigga Ózk – “Dancing Lonely”
  2. Bragi – “Sometimes the World’s Against You”
  3. Celebs – “Doomsday Dancing”
  4. Diljá – “Power”
  5. Langi Seli & Skuggarnir – “OK”

In this first part of the night, a combined voting system, consisting of 50% international jury votes and 50% televotes, determined that “OK” and “Power” got access to the superfinal.
In the second part of the show, votes from the first part were added to a second batch of televotes, deciding the final ranking and declaring Diljá the winner of the night and granting her the ticket to Liverpool.

The final ranking resulted as follows:

  1. Diljá – “Power”
  2. Langi Seli & Skuggarnir – “OK”
  3. Sigga Ózk – “Dancing Lonely”
  4. Bragi – “Sometimes the World’s Against You”
  5. Celebs – “Doomsday Dancing”

Iceland in Eurovision

Iceland hasn’t won the Contest yet, although many think Daði & Gagnamagnið could have taken it home in 2020 with “Think About Things“, hadn’t the contest been cancelled.

Iceland’s best result to date was second place twice, in 1999 with “All Out of Luck” by Selma and again in 2009 with Yohanna‘s “Is it true?“.

Last year, Systur ended in 23rd place with their song “Með hækkandi sól
