Finland Confirms Eurovision 2025 Participation and UMK Selection

Finland is gearing up for an exciting Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, with the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) confirming the country’s participation and the continuation of the popular UMK (Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu) as the selection method for their Eurovision entry.

UMK: The Pathway to Eurovision

UMK has been a successful platform for discovering and promoting new Finnish music talent. The application period for UMK25 will open on August 19, 2024, and close on August 25, 2024. Aspiring participants are encouraged to review the rules and submit their entries within this period.

Since its inception in 2012, UMK has grown in significance, becoming a major showcase for Finnish music. The competition has gained popularity over the years for its high production values and the diverse range of artists it attracts. The 2023 winner, Käärijä, received immense popularity both in Finland and across Europe. The 2024 UMK event, held at the Nokia Arena, sold out two shows in just a few hours, highlighting the event’s growing appeal.

UMK and Finland’s Eurovision Journey

UMK has consistently been the method through which Finland selects its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. The competition has been instrumental in bringing fresh and diverse Finnish music to the international stage. Artists like Käärijä, The Rasmus, and Blind Channel, who have won UMK in recent years, have gone on to achieve significant success both domestically and internationally.
