France gets a strong representative for Malmö

Alexandra Redde-Amiel, head of the French Eurovision delegation, announced the big news this morning on France Inter: “He has long since won the hearts of the French (…). On behalf of France Télévisions and the Eurovision delegation, we are delighted to announce that Slimane will be representing France in Sweden.”

Winner of the French edition of The Voice in 2016, the singer-songwriter is very popular in France and in many neighbouring countries. Since this victory, he has released three albums in 2016, 2018 and 2022, selling over 2 million records. On his social networks, Slimane reacted with a touching message to his loved ones: “For my parents, for my daughter, for France, for you…”

His song, Mon amour, will be premiered tonight at 8pm in prime time on France 2.

A Eurovision designed-bid

For several years now, his name has been mentioned in the French Eurovision community because of his career, experience and popularity. So the rumour turns out to be true this time! The main reason is the singer’s preparation. He’s been working on his candidacy for a long time, in order to have the song and the staging most in tune with his musical universe.

The song is intended to be romantic and seductive, to reach as many viewers as possible on the night of the final.

The French delegation surprised everyone by unveiling its Eurovision song so early – it is the first country to do so for the 2024 edition. The reason? To prepare for it as well as possible! “We want to prepare Slimane, take him to meet Europe”, explains Alexandra Redde-Amiel, suggesting that between now and the competition, the artist could consider translating his song since he fluently speaks three languages, the idea behind is for his song to be understood by as many viewers as possible. Let us bet that with a title such as “Mon amour“it won’t be too difficult.

What about you guys? Did you know Slimane before and are you excited to see France revealing its entry so early?
