Lithuania is gearing up for their Eurovision 2025 participation.
The Lithuanian broadcaster has not only confirmed their participation for Eurovision 2025, but have also confirmed that they will once again be using Eurovizija.lt as their selection method. The submissions have already opened, and will close on Monday November 11th. Eurovizija.lt 2025 is expected to have up to 5 semi finals (depending on how many submissions they receive) and one final.
The rules for Eurovizija.lt echo the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest, as set out by the EBU – all songs must not exceed three minutes in length, cannot have been released or performed prior to September 1st, 2024, but can be in any language.
Chief producer for LRT Audrius Giržadas, explains why they have made the decision to start preparations for Eurovizija.lt earlier than usual: “In preparation for the national EUROVIZIJA.LT selection, this year we decided to start the registration period in the summer. We hope that the early invitation will encourage the registration of not only those artists and songwriters who have already chosen their “Eurovision” song, but also inspire them to create more than one hit in the coming months.
The selection will take place according to last year’s updated model of the final – the final decision of who will go to the big “Eurovision” will be made by the audience. Also, to the delight of the audience, the commission’s comments will return to the screens in the selection shows starting in January.”
The voting system for next years edition of Eurovizija.lt will remain the same as in previous years – voting during the semi finals and the first part of the final will be a mix of jury vote and televote. The three acts with the most votes in the final will advance to the superfinal, where the winner will be decided by 100% televote.
The broadcaster has also confirmed that they will allocate financial support to each act participating in Eurovizija.lt, which they can use for the production of the song, and the staging. LRT’s share of the funds collected from the televote will be given to the winner for them to use on their song and performance for Eurovision 2025.
Silvester Belt was the winner of Eurovizija.lt this year, and went on to represent Lithuania at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö with “Luktelk”. He qualified to the final where he finished in 14th place with 90 points.
Eurovision 2025 comes to Switzerland for the first time since 1989, following on from Nemo’s win this year with “The Code”. The contest will be held in either Basel or Geneva, with a final decision expected by the end of the month.
