The German broadcaster has confirmed the return of national final "Unser Lied für" for Eurovision 2023.
NDR have confirmed that they will once again be using “Unser Lied für Liverpool” to select their song and singer for Eurovision 2023. They have also confirmed that TikTok will play a role in the national final.
For the first time ever, TikTok will be used in the search for Germany’s Eurovision representative via the official hashtag #UnserLiedFürLiverpool. The songs uploaded to TikTok with this hashtag will be voted on, and whoever receives the most votes will be added to the Unser Lied für Liverpool line-up.
Alongside this, German broadcaster NDR will be proactively approaching record labels and artists who might be interested in competing in the national final.
A team of music industry professionals will evaluate all the acts for the show.
Andreas Gerling, head of the ARD team for the Eurovision Song Contest at NDR has said:
“This competition, Europe’s biggest music show, is very important to us. And we are competing in the hope that we will come out ahead. Anyone who thinks they can contribute their musical quality to help make Germany a winner again is therefore more than welcome. I am looking forward to what will hopefully be a very varied and exciting competition.”
Unser Lied für Liverpool is expected to be broadcast live in early March. ARD pop radio stations – Antenne Brandenburg, BAYERN 3, Bremen Vier, hr3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR3 und WDR 2 will all encourage their listeners to vote online, which will contribute towards the final results.
2023 will mark the second year running that Germany will select their Eurovision representative through a national final. In 2022, Malik Harris was the winner of Germany: 12 points with “Rockstar”. He finished in 25th place in the Eurovision 2022 final.
