New twist from Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra agrees to replace Alina Pash in the Eurovision 2022!
The Ukrainian national broadcaster UA:PBC has announced that Kalush Orchestra will replace Alina Pash and represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.
“At the meeting of the Organizing Committee of the National Selection for Eurovision-2022, it was decided that the band “Kalush Orchestra” will represent Ukraine at the international song contest in Turin.” said the committee in a public statement.
Coming second in the Ukrainian national selection, the hip-hop group will go to Turin and sing their song “Stefania“. The announcement had been expected for several days, since Vidbir 2022 winner Alina Pash finally had to give up representing her country after it was revealed that she might had entered Crimea illegally. Alina Pash said some people had attacked her online and called her un-Ukrainian for the visit. For this reason she renounced to represent Ukraine in the Eurovision 2022.
The group took the second place in the Vidbir 2022 and received the greatest support from the audience. In total, the band received 14 points, of which a maximum of 8 points from the audience and 6 points from the judges.
