Despite winning the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on February 19th with “Out of Sight”, it has now been confirmed by TVM that Emma Muscat will be singing a brand new song on the stage in Turin, “I Am What I Am”.
“I Am What I Am” has been written by Emma herself, alongside Dino Medanhodzic, who has written “Bulletproof” for Dotter in Melodifestivalen 2020, Julie Aagaard, who wrote “Run To The Hills” for Klara Hammerstöm in Melodifestivalen 2022 and Stine Kinck.
On Again... Off Again
Emma’s song change marks the second time in Malta’s Eurovision history that the winning Malta Eurovision Song Contest song won’t go to Eurovision. Back in 2016, Ira Losco won with “Chameleon”, which was later changed to “Walk On Water” for Eurovision.
The rules of Malta Eurovision Song Contest this year only state that “The winning artist will be eligible to represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.” However, no mention is made that the winning song must go to Eurovision 2022.
