Who is Iru Khechanovi?
Iru Khechanovi is a 22 year old singer and songwriter from Tbilisi. Prior to winning The Voice, she won Junior Eurovision 2011 as part of the girl group Candy. The five member group just pipped Rachel from The Netherlands to the top spot, finishing the night with 108 points with their catchy disco number “Candy Music”.
Speaking of Junior Eurovision, Iru also co-wrote Georgia’s 2022 Junior Eurovision entry “I Believe” which was performed by Mariam Bigvava and finished in 3rd place.
Georgia at Eurovision
Georgia debuted for the contest in 2007, with Sopho and her song “Visionary Dream” which finished 12th in the final. Infamously, in 2009 Georgia had to withdraw from the contest after its entry “We Don’t Wanna Put In” by Stephane and 3G was deemed “potical” by the EBU as the contest was taking place in Moscow.
Over the course of their Eurovision tenure, Georgia has managed to qualify for the final 7/14 times. Their best result came in 2010 when Sofie Nizharadze and her song “Shine” got 9th place. Despite this qualification rate, Georgia have failed to qualify for the final in their last 5 attempts.
Last year, Circus Mircus finished last in semi final 2 with their song “Lock Me Out“.
