The Danish broadcaster has revealed new information about Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024.

DR have confirmed that the 2024 edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will take place on February 17th in DR Koncerthuset (DR Concert House) in Copenhagen. With a capctity of 1,800, this will be the first time since 2000 that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will not be held in an arena. As has been the case since 2021, the final will have eight acts competing.

Alongside the confirmation of the venue and date for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024, the broadcaster also revealed that they will approach next years show with a new strategy. This decision comes after three consecutive non-qualfications for the Nordic nation.

DR have undertaken extensive analysis work, which has resulted in a new strategy and approach to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix going forward, as Grand Prix Manager, Erik Struve Hansen explains: “We have looked at the show at the seams, our whole approach to artists and the music. We’ve looked at what works in Eurovision and what doesn’t.”

Next year will see an even closer screening of the songs that are submitted, with the judging committee focusing on three things – song, vocalist, performance, as Hansen explains: “It requires a strong song, a strong vocalist and a very strong performance. It is a kind of trinity. It is important that all three things play a role.”

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix goes international!

Part of the changes that DR are bringing into next years Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is the addition of international jury members, who will be voting alongside jury members from Denmark.

This marks a change from previous years, whereby the final results of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix were typically decided by a mix of jury vote (with all five members being from Denmark), combined with televote/app voting.

This year’s edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix saw Faroe Island born Reiley win the ticket to Liverpool with his song “Breaking My Heart”. He finished in 14th place with 6 points in semi final 2.
