The selection process for Eurovision 2022 in Poland is coming to an end. Although the representative isn’t going to be revealed until the 15th of January, there are a lot of rumours surrounding TVP’s choice, with DARIA and Krystian Ochman being the most talked about names.
In late September, TVP revealed their plans for the internal selection process under the same name as the selections in the previous years – Krajowe Eliminacje. The broadcaster set the deadline for sending entries on the 21st of November. Although the representative was to be announced before January 2nd, the date was postponed to 15th, giving Eurovision fans a lot of room for speculation.
One of the rumoured artists most likely to represent Poland in Turin is Daria Diana Marx Marcinkowska, also known as DARIA. She first gained some popularity when in 2019 she reached the Battle stage of The Voice of Poland – in the same edition that Alicja Szemplińska won. Her songs Love Blind and Paranoia have taken Polish radio stations by storm, with Paranoia being eligible to represent Poland as it was released in October 2021. Since then, DARIA performed in many events and shows in TVP, including Sylwester Marzeń (New Year’s Eve of Dreams) and You Can Dance. Even though she did not confirm that she sent any entries to TVP, it is speculated that she might be chosen with a different song, as she recently did a secret project in Berlin.
Another name that comes up often is Krystian Ochman, who was also considered last year as one of the contenders for Eurovision. The Voice winner from 2020 comes from a family with musical traditions as his father played in the band Róże Europy and his grandfather, Wiesław Ochman, is a famous Polish opera singer. In November, Ochman admitted in an interview with empik that he had recorded a song with @atutowy and Czarny HIFI that he considered Eurovision. In an interview with eska.pl however, he said that if he were to choose a song to perform at Eurovision, it would be Gdzie iść. He also added that he’s not sure if he’s ready for Eurovision and doesn’t know the contest that well as he grew up in the United States.
There are also other singers that have confirmed sending a song to TVP, including Kuba Szmajkowski with Lovesick, as well as Karolina Stanisławczyk, who has not released her single yet, but said in an interview with Jej Perfekcyjność that it will be a duet in English and Spanish.
Poland made their Eurovision debut in 1994. They have used a mix of national finals and internal selections to chose their act for Eurovision, with varying success. Last year, Rafał Brzozowski was internally selected by TVP to sing “The Ride” in Rotterdam. He finished in 14th place in Semi Final 2 with 35 points.
