The Czech broadcaster CT recently announced its plans to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, but it’s not officially confirmed yet whether the country will compete in Italy next year or not.
All interested parties can submit their songs for the selection process between December 17th and 30th. Candidates must respect the following rules:
- An artist can submit more than one song into the selection;
- Songs must not have been published or performed publicly before September 1, 2021;
- Lead singer must hold Czech citizenship.
Despite announcing their plans, CT stressed that the selection process can be canceled if the Czech Republic does not participate in Eurovision 2022. It should be noted that, as in previous years, members of the EBU have until the end of September to officially confirm whether their country will or will not participate in the singing competition next year.
The Czech Republic in Eurovision
So far, the Czech Republic has 9 participations in the Eurovision Song Contest, having conquered three qualifications for the Grand Final, namely in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Benny Cristo, chosen to represent the Czech Republic in 2020 and 2021, did not qualify to this year’s Grand Final. His song “Omaga” ended up in 15th place with a total of 23 points, all coming from the professional jury.
