Following Nemo’s victory at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with the song “The Code,” Switzerland will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Several Swiss cities are vying for the opportunity to host this prestigious event, with Zurich emerging as the clear favorite among experts and bookmakers.
According to predictions from OLBG, a community of knowledgeable bettors, Zurich leads the race with a 50% chance of being selected as the host city. The city’s Hallenstadion, which can accommodate 15,000 visitors, is seen as an optimal venue due to its capacity, technical facilities, and accessibility. Zurich’s efficient transportation system and proximity to an international airport further enhance its appeal as a Eurovision host city.
Basel and Geneva are also strong contenders, each with a 25% chance of hosting the event. Basel’s proposed venue is the St. Jakobshalle, which has a capacity of 12,400 and is well-suited for press events and other Eurovision-related activities. Geneva’s Palexpo International Exhibition and Congress Center, with its extensive facilities and proximity to Geneva’s international airport, is another viable option for hosting the music competition.
St. Gallen, despite having a suitable venue in the Kantonalbankhalle, is considered less likely to be chosen due to the absence of an international airport, which is a significant logistical disadvantage.
The final decision on the host city for Eurovision 2025 is expected to be made by the SRG in September. This timeline, although tight compared to the long lead times usually required for booking concert venues and major events, reflects the high stakes and intense competition among Swiss cities to host the world’s largest music competition.
