Wales will not return to Junior Eurovision 2022

The Welsh broadcaster S4C have confirmed that Wales will not be returning to Junior Eurovision in 2022. This will be the third year in a row that the nation will not be present.

The nation has also confirmed that they will not be making their debut in the Eurovision Young Musicians 2022 in France.

The reasons for Wales’ withdrawal from Junior Eurovision 2022 have not been made clear; however, Wales previously withdrew from the 2020 and 2021 contests due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wales and Junior Eurovision

Wales made their Junior Eurovision debut as a solo nation in 2018, having previously been part of the United Kingdom’s participations in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Their debut participation in 2018 saw Manw performing “Perta” in Minsk. She finished in 20th place with 29 points. In 2019, Erin Mai performed “Calon yn Cyro” in Gliwice-Silesia, finishing in 18th place with 35 points.
