Great news! It has just been confirmed that Vasil Garvanliev, otherwise known as Vasil, will be returning to Eurovision 2021 after being the representative for North Macedonia in the cancelled contest of 2020. He brings the number of artists returning from 2020 to 22. Both the EBU and Vasil confirmed the news, with the latter confirming it on his social media.
Vasil has previously took part in Eurovision as a backing vocalist for Tamara Todevska in 2019 and was set to represent North Macedonia in 2020 with the song You prior to cancellation. He was set to perform in the 4th slot in the first semi final. This year’s song will be revealed at a later date.
North Macedonia in Eurovision
North Macedonia’s first official entry was in 1998 where Vlado Janevski finished 19th. A notable representative for the country is Kaliopi, who has represented North Macedonia 3 times, in 1996 (she failed to pass the pre-qualification round), 2012 and 2016. Her best entry was in 2012 where finished 12th with her song Crno i belo. Elena Ristenska’s Ninanajna from 2006 was the country’s best result until Tamara Todevska took that title when she finished 7th overall in the 2019 contest with her song Proud. Vasil was set to sing You at Eurovision 2020 before the contest got cancelled.
