We are getting more and more Eurovision entries these days and one of them is North Macedonian. Vasil has finally released his Eurovision Song Contest 2021 entry titled “Here I Stand”. The song was just premiered alongside with the music video on the official Eurovision YouTube channel.

Unlike the last-year’s Latino-influenced song “You”, this one is a slow-burning, power, orchestra ballad. It has very powerful, self-embracing lyrics, just what we need in these difficult times.

They all tried to break us
not knowing it’s what makes us
this is how we found our way

The song has that Disney value. It starts with a silent piano, furthermore the song progresses by adding the orchestral instrumentation and the Chicago Children’s Choir, which creates a very mystic and cinematic vibe.

It is clear that “Here I Stand” is much more personal than “You” since, this year, Vasil decided to be the one in charge. He wrote the song and the lyrics himself while Borche Kuzmanovsk and Davor Jordanovski are listed as the producers.  This song also shows his voice in the best possible way, proving that he is an excellent vocalist.

Last week, he filmed his back-up performance in Belgrade in the same studio with the Serbian representatives, Hurricane. The EBU, European Broadcasting Union, has decided to have all contestants film a back-up recording ahead of Eurovision. These performances will be used in case the delegation cannot make it to the Eurovision, or if an artist has to be in quarantine during the Eurovision week.

Vasil and Eurovision

Vasil Garvanliev has previously taken part in Eurovision as a backing vocalist for Tamara Todevska in 2019 and was set to represent North Macedonia in 2020 with the song “You” prior to cancellation. The North Macedonian delegation decided to give him another chance this year.

Vasil will perform in the first half of the Semi-final 1 on May 18th in Rotterdam.

What do you think about this entry? Is it strong enough to stand out and qualify to the Grand Final? Can Vasil set the new best score for his country? Let us know it the comments!
