News from Greece: The chosen 7 entries have been narrowed down to the final 3 songs.
The remaining 3 songs are the result of the voting of the Audience Committee in combination with the evaluation by the ERT expert committee. Those are the remaining 3 songs:
- Melissa Mantzoukis – Liar
- Victor Vernicos – What They Say
- Maria Maragou & Antonia Kaouri – Shout Out
Those are the four songs that are OUT of the running:
- Konstantina Iosifidou – We Are Young
- Monika – I’m Proud
- Leon Of Athens – Somewhere To Go
- Klavdia – Holy Water
The winning song will be selected by the jury and by the public. The public jury consists of 70 members that have been chosen through selected applications.
The president of the broadcaster ERT mentioned that “The public will vote at a rate of 50.6% and the committee at a rate of 49.4%. It is democratic and we adapt to the new data.”
The chosen selection method is not to be seen as a national final, but it clearly is an expanded version of a pure internal selection – an approach that was chosen in the past couple of years to find the respective Greek Eurovision entry.
Greece at Eurovision
After the Eurovision debut in 1974, the country has taken part in the contest 42 times. Helena Paparizou brought the trophy home in 2005 with her uptempo song “My Number One”. Greece became a very successful competitor in the 21st century with 10 out of 14 top ten results, including three 3rd place finishes. The mediterranean country never came last in the contest. Many famous Greek artists were competing for their country in the past, including Anna Vissi, Kati Garby, Sophia Vossou, Thalassa, Sakis Rouvas, Helena Paparizou, Demy and Loukas Yorkas.
