SVT have announced that they have chosen 14 songs (out of 28) that will compete in next year’s Melodifestivalen in the hopes of winning and taking the trophy to Rotterdam.
The songs have been selected by a special jury, with people who have various knowledge of the industry and music in general. They had one week to listen to all the songs and decide who they want to see on the Melodifestivalen stage.
The last 14 songs will be chosen by Swedish broadcaster SVT and the record labels who they would like to see perform. We already have one name ready for Melodifestivalen – Julia Alfreda, who won the radio contest P4 Nästa.
Once SVT have decided on their final 14, all of the 28 participating acts are going to be revealed in November, as per tradition, and the songs will once again be available to listen to a few days before each heat.
Melodifestivalen is the biggest, and arguably the most popular Eurovision national final that has been held every year since 1960. Since then, have we seen numerous famous acts in Eurovision that we remember still to this day. ABBA is one of the most famous acts, who competed in Melodifestivalen in 1974, and went on to take the world by storm!
The Mamas, who provided backing vocals for John Lundvik at Eurovision 2019, won Melodifestivalen 2020 with their infectiously catchy pop tune “Move”. Unfortunatley, they were unable to take to the Eurovision stage for a second time due to the cancellation of Eurovision 2020. It is unknown if they will participate in next years Melodifestivalen.
