Spain: RTVE to prioritise finding “a good song” for Junior Eurovision 2022

During the press conference that was held for Benidorm Fest 2023 on July 19th, Spain’s Head of Delegation, Eva Mora, gave some details about the country’s plans and preparations for the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Armenia.

Eva Mora confirmed that Spain will decide their Junior Eurovision singer and song via an internal selection for a fourth year running, and that these preparations are ongoing. It has not been confirmed when Spain’s Junior Eurovision 2022 representative will be revealed.

Eva Mora has explained that the broadcaster wants to prioritise finding a good song first, whereas in previous years, their focus has been more so on the singer: “We want to get a great candidate, but we want go chose a good song first.”

Expanding on this, María Eizaguirre, Director of Communications and Participation at RTVE, has explained that the broadcaster “has a lot of decisions to take about Junior Eurovision” and that they can be expected soon: “as soon as they are taken, they will be communicated.”

Eva Mora goes on to explain that the Spanish broadcaster are working on establishing a strategy to promote Junior Eurovision in Spain, and that they want to highlight the talent of children/teenagers in Spain.

Spain is one of 13 countries who have confirmed their participation in Junior Eurovision 2022. This years contest will mark Spain’s eighth participation in total and their fourth consecutive participation since returning to the contest in 2019.

Spain are one of the most successful countries in Junior Eurovision, having achieved an impressive five top 3 placings (including one win) across seven participations.
