The Azerbaijani broadcaster iTV have announced that they have opened the song submissions process for Junior Eurovision 2021.

After confirming their return to the contest with Sona Azizova as their representative just a few days ago, the broadcaster is now holding an open song submissions process to find the song that Sona will sing in Paris this December.

The song submissions window opened on August 20th, and will remain open until September 10th. All songs can be sent to song@eurovision.az. Once the submissions window closes, a jury panel made up of Azerbaijani and international experts will internally chose the song that Sona will sing in Paris.

Sona Azizova was internally selected by Azerbaijan’s broadcaster to represent her country at Junior Eurovision 2021. She previously finished in second place on The Voice Kids earlier this year. Sona will become Azerbaijan’s fourth Junior Eurovision representative since the country made their debut in 2021.

Azerbaijan participated in Junior Eurovision 2012 and 2013, finishing in 11th place and 7th place respectively. They withdrew after the 2013 contest, and didn’t return until 2018, when Fidan Huseynova achieved 16th place with her song “I Wanna Be Like You”. The country withdrew for a second time, only to return again for the 2021 contest.
