Ruth Lorenzo will be the spokesperson for Spain at Eurovision 2023.

After nine years, Ruth Lorenzo is returning to Eurovision! The Spanish broadcaster has confirmed that their Eurovision 2014 representative will be reading out the votes of the Spanish jury at the final of Eurovision 2023 on May 13th.

Ruth Lorenzo takes over from Spanish model and television presenter Nieves Álvarez, who has been Spain’s Eurovision spokesperson since 2017.

Although no stranger to the spotlight, the task of delivering your country’s 12 points to a global audience of over 160 million people hits differently, as Ruth explains: “The first thing I asked is: are you sure? It is not the same to do a program that you do pre-recorded to a direct one. So the nerves are different.”

Who is Ruth Lorenzo?

Ruth Lorenzo is a Spanish singer songwriter, composer and television personality. Her music career started out in 2008, when she made it to the live shows of X Factor U.K., finishing in 5th place.

After a string of singles in both English and Spanish, with performances across the United Kingdom and Spain, Ruth was confirmed as one of the five acts in the running to represent Spain at Eurovision 2014.

She won the national final Mira quién va a Eurovisión (Look Who’s Going To Eurovision) with her song “Dancing In The Rain” and went on to achieve a top 10 finish for Spain, ending the night in 10th place.

Her debut album Planeta Azul followed in October 2014. In July 2015, she took part in Tu cara me suena (Your Face Sounds Familiar), which she ended up winning.

She continued to perform and release music, with her second album Loveaholic being released in 2018. That same year, she made her theatre debut with the role of God in La Llamada (The Call) in Madrid.
