“Russian Woman” will have more English lyrics in Rotterdam

March 10, 2021

On the 8th of March the Russian national final Russia Decides was won by Manizha with her bilingual song Russian Woman. For a bilingual song from Russia we had to wait as long as for the national final. The last time both were seen or heard was in 2012, when Russia sent Burnaovskiye Babushki and “Party for Everybody”, which was partly in a Uralic language called Udmurt. The band came second in Eurovision that same year in Baku. One year before that, the country’s song had consisted of the Russian language.

While speaking to the Russian magazine, Manizha stated that she’s planning to change some of the lyrics, however the message of them is going to remain. Manizha went on to say:

“There are also English lines (Every Russian woman needs to know), but we will refine it a little bit, I will add a few sentences in English, so they are clear to everyone. But for me it is very important to preserve the Russian language. I sing in English myself and understand how fun it is. But when I watch Eurovision, I always think how cool it is to sing in the language of my country. It’s class. As it was in Portugal with Salvador Sobral, with Maria Serifovic in Serbia…”
