The Portuguese broadcaster are questioning the delay in uploading Iolanda's grand final performance.

Every year at Eurovision, short clips of every acts performances in the semi finals and grand final are uploaded to the Eurovision Song Contest’s official social media accounts. However, at this years grand final, Portugal’s clip was uploaded late (more than one hour after Iolanda’s performance), and the clip which was uploaded showed Iolanda’s semi final performance, and not her grand final performance.

Portuguese broadcaster RTP have questioned this delay, and president of the Board of Directors of RTP Nicolau Santos, has stated that the Portuguese delegation will meet with the EBU tomorrow (Tuesday 14th May 2024). Nicolau Santos has mentioned in an interview with RTP3 that a member of the EBU alledge that the presence of “pro-Palestinian elements” present were the reason for the delay in posting the performance.

During the dress rehearsals and live performance in semi final one, Iolanda had plain white nails, but for her performance in the grand final, she had Palestian colours painted on her nails. You could see the black and white pattern of the Palestian Keffiyeh, with the same pattern also in red and green against white coloured nails, which are all the colours of the Palestinian flag.

However, despite all of the controversy surrounding Eurovision 2024, and the delay in uploading a performance clip for Iolanda, Nicolau Santos says that Portugal will continue to participate in Eurovision: “It makes no sense for RTP to consider leaving Eurovision.”

Iolanda comfortably qualified to the final of Eurovision 2024, finishing in 8th place in semi final one with 58 points. In the final, she was awarded 7th place and 139 points from the jury and 20th place with 13 points from the televoters, giving Portugal a 10th place finish with 152 points.

What are your thoughts on Portugal’s performance clip being uploaded with a delay? What do you think will come of RTP’s meeting with the EBU tomorrow? Let us know in the comments below!
