Despite no confirmation being made yet on how Eurovision 2021 will go ahead, host city Rotterdam has made sure that are prepared, whatever the outcome may be, by reserving 3,000 hotel rooms for all the delegations who are expected to be in Rotterdam for the 2021 contest. The bookings will be officially confirmed once the EBU and broadcaster have decided upon which scenario will be used, and how many delegations will be travelling to Rotterdam.
A block booking of hotels and rooms was made in preparation for Eurovision 2020, but due to the cancellation of the contest, these bookings have been brought forward to 2021 instead. Every delegation will have the same booking this year as they would have had in 2020.
Speaking with Dutch newspaper AD, chairman of the Rotterdam Hotel Association (RHC), Roel Dusseldorp, has said that this is a positive step for the hotel industry in Rotterdam, which has suffered a drop in the number of bookings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The number of guests can be counted on one hand. We are now purely open out of service.”
Rotterdam hotels have also assured us that in the event of an audience being present at Eurovision 2021, there will still be enough rooms for the fans, as many rooms in the city are currently available.
