Noa Kirel to represent Israel at Eurovision 2023

We're less than 2 months removed from the final of Eurovision 2022, but that hasn't stopped Israel from selecting their artist fro next year's contest!

Israeli broadcaster Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC/KAN) have announced that Noa Kirel will represent Israel at Eurovision 2023.

The decision was made by a professional committee who had discussed 78 names before choosing Kirel. Last month KAN confirmed that they would be using an internal selected this year to select their artist after choosing through the X Factor Israel in 2022.

Representative of Noa Kirel have said: “Noa is proud to represent Israel in the competition.

Who is Noa Kirel?

Noa Kirel is a 21 year old singer, dancer, TV presenter and model born in Ra’anana, Israel. Kirel was born to parents of Austrian-Jewish and Moroccan-Jewish decent. Kirel is most well known for winning the MTV Europe Music Awards for the best Israeli Act between every year 2017 and 2020.

In 2015, Kirel released her debut song on Youtube called “Medabrim?”. She has had three singles reach number in the Israel charts, with the recent most one coming in 2021 called “Reashim” (Noises).

In March 2020 Kirel was enlisted to the Israel Defence Forces, serving in the military band. She completed her service in February this year. 

Israel at Eurovision

Israel debuted in the contest in 1973 with Ilanit and the song “Ey Sham” which came 4th. Israel have won the contest 4 times, with their most recent success coming in 2018 when Netta won with her song “Toy“. 

This year, Israel failed to qualify for the final for the first time since 2014, after Michael Ben David and his song “I.M” came 13th place in the second semi final. Noa Kirel will be looking to get Israel back performing on the Saturday.
