Lucio Corsi will represent Italy at Eurovision 2025 with his song "Volevo Essere Un Duro".
The Italian broadcaster has confirmed that Sanremo 2025 runner-up Lucio Corsi will be representing Italy at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. This news comes after Sanremo 2025 winner Olly declined the offer to go to Eurovision.
Olly says no to Eurovision
Sanremo 2025 winner Olly declined the opportunity to represent his country at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, citing his need to focus on his busy schedule and workload, which includes touring across Italy later this year.
In the wake of Olly declining the invitation to represent Italy at Eurovision 2025, RAI extended the invitation to the runner-up, Lucio Corsi, who had previously stated that he would like to represent Italy at Eurovision. He is now headed to Basel with his song “Volevo essere un duro” (I wanted to be a tough guy).
This will be the first time since 2016 that the winner of Sanremo will not go on to represent Italy at Eurovision. In 2016, the group Stadio won the festival with their song “Un giorno mi dirai”, but declined the chance to go to Eurovision, and instead, runner-up Francesca Michielin was offered went to Stockholm that year with her song “Nessun grado di separazione”.
Italy will be voting in semi final one of Eurovision 2025 in Basel on Tuesday 13th May. There is the possibility that Lucio Corsi might also perform his Eurovision entry in semi final one as well, just as the big 5 and host country did in 2024, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
