Singer and dancer Kaleen will represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö!
Austrian broadcaster ORF revealed Kaleen as the artist on radio station Hitradio Ö3. Kaleen has said on representing Austria:
“I think I haven’t fully grasped the fact yet, that I’ll be standing on that stage as an artist myself. I am in love with this world of lights and cameras and believe it’s a privilege to take the audience on a journey. I worked hard for this, and I am extremely proud. I am very looking forward to showing the world what I can do!”
Her song is said to be a techno-inspired pop track, which will be released at a later date.
Who is Kaleen?
Kaleen is a 29-year-old singer and dancer from Upper Austria. She has been involved in performing arts from a young age, winning her first dancing national championship at the age of seven. She would later win more than 100 National and European championships, and five world titles.
Kaleen started releasing music in 202, with her most popular song to date being ‘Games‘.
She is no stranger to the Eurovision stage either. In 2018 Kaleen was a lead stand-in artist for rehearsals of many countries, as well as being a dancer and choreographer for an interval act in Lisbon. In Junior Eurovision she was the creative director for Spain and Bulgaria in 2021, the creative director for Spain and the stage director for the entire show in 2022. Last year, she supported Austria, Armenia, Germany and Georgia with their performances in Liverpool.
Austria at Eurovision
Austria debuted at Eurovision in 1957, when Bob Martin performed “Wohin, kleines Pony?” and sadly came last. Over the course of their 53 appearances, Austria have infamously earned the honour of receiving nul points 4 times (1962, 1988, 1991 and 2015), more than any other country.
Austria have also managed to win the contest twice. Their most recent victory came in 2014 when the iconic Conchita Wurst took home the crown with their song “Rise Like A Phoenix“.
In 2018, Austria managed to reach 3rd place with Cesár Sampson and his song “Nobody But You“, winning the jury vote in the process. After that result, they failed to qualify for the final in three consecutive contest. However last year, Teya and Salena turned Austria’s fortunes around, reaching 15th place in the final with their song ‘Who The Hell Is Edgar?‘.
