Maléna has the honour of representing Armenia this year with her powerful song Qami Qami! Here is all the information you need on Maléna and her song!

Who is Maléna?

The young artist Arpine Martoyan (artistic name: Maléna Fox) from Yerevan has dreamed about representing Armenia for many years. She grew up in a family of musicians and Maléna’s grandfather is a clarinetist who plays in the Philharmonic Orchestra. Maléna is a talented cellist and spends a lot of time in the studio, where she experiments with different music genres.

The young vocalist attended the school after “Sayat-Nova” for seven years, where she studied solfeggio, music literature, and cello. Maléna enjoys dancing and has been taking classes since she was ten years old. She began learning to play the guitar after being inspired by R&B singers and rock bands, and it became an important part of her budding career. Besides her musical talent, Maléna is also very interested in graphic design.

How did she get selected?

The 14 years old Maléna has already been chosen internally to represent Armenia in 2020 with her song ‘Why?’. She was unable to compete, however, due to Armenia’s withdrawal from the competition as a result of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) and its ramifications. This year, she has been selected again to represent Armenia and finally get her chance on the Junior Eurovision stage.

Tell us about the song!

Tokionine, who also composed Armenia’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 “Walking Out,” composed the song ‘Qami Qami’, which will be performed in Armenian and English. The song’s lyrics were written by Vahram Petrosyan, tokionine, Maléna and David Tserunyan. ‘Qami’ means ‘wind’, which fits the meaning of the song: The otherworldly sounds are complimented by its lyrics, which speak of journeying to faraway places to be who she actually is and how the winds may transport her there. When you achieve that state of mind, don’t let it go for anything. Anyone can aspire to achieve this goal, to arrive at that state of mind and soul.

Sing along to 'Qami Qami': Lyrics

Armenian

I go high and
There’s a place where I feel safe and free.
Ayl a p’ayly,
Ayl a p’ayly k’aghak’i.
Yela, yela, ampern i ver,
I found myself, way far away

K’ami k’amin, indz noren ktani,
Herrunery depi, ama – am – amayi u,
K’ani k’ani, ver yellam aveli,
Yes kllam k’ami k’vo pes antesaneli.

Ver yenk’ verevum yenk’ el ch’enk’ yerevum menk’,
Hets a k’amin, ch’em vakhenum,
Vor kherrana na, vor kverana na,
Na indz pahela ir grkum.
Yela, yela, ampern i ver,
I found myself, way far away.

K’ami k’amin, indz noren ktani,
Herrunery depi, ama – am – amayi u,
K’ani k’ani, ver yellam aveli,
Yes kllam k’ami k’vo pes antesaneli.

Haa, k’ami k’ami, ama – am – amayi,
Haa, k’ami k’ami, ama – am – amayi,
I know you can feel it, the wind inside,
The same thing in my heart that makes me feel alive,
Whenever you feel it, don’t you think of falling down again

K’ami k’amin, indz noren ktani,
Herrunery depi, ama – am – amayi, u,
K’ani k’ani, ver yellam aveli,
Yes kllam k’ami k’vo pes antesaneli

English translation

I go high and
There’s a place where I feel safe and free.
The city shines differently.
I went higher and higher, higher than the skies,
I found myself, way far away.

The wind, the wind will take me again,
To the wilds far away,
Higher and higher I’ll go,
I’ll be invisible, like you, wind.

We’re high in the skies and no one can see us,
The wind is with me and I’m not afraid,
That it will leave me, that it will disappear,
It holds me in its arms.
I went higher and higher, higher than the skies,
I found myself, way far away.

The wind, the wind will take me again,
To the wilds far away,
Higher and higher I’ll go,
I’ll be invisible, like you, wind.

Ha… Wind wind,
Ha… Wind wind.
I know you can feel it, the wind inside,
The same thing in my heart, that makes me feel alive,
Whenever you feel it, don’t you think of falling down again.

The wind, the wind will take me again,
To the wilds far away,
Higher and higher I’ll go,
I’ll be invisible, like you, wind.

Armenia at Junior Eurovision

Armenia entered the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 2007, and has since had 13 entries. The country is one of the most successful in the competition’s history, having been in the top 3 seven times and won once in 2010. Vladimir Arzumanyan won the competition with his song “Mama,” which received 120 points. Armenia went on to host the competition in Yerevan, Armenia, in 2011. Their debut was almost as successful as Arevik’s song  “Erazanq” came in second place by only one point.
