Júlia Machado to represent Portugal at Junior Eurovision 2023

Júlia Machado will represent Portugal at Junior Eurovision 2023.

Portuguese broadcaster RTP have confirmed that winner of series four of The Voice Kids Portugal, Júlia Machado, will be the country’s representative at the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Nice this November.

Who is Júlia Machado?

Júlia Machado is a 12 year old singer who currently resides in New Jersey in the United States. When she is not busy with school, she enjoys singing and doing theatre. Júlia has performed many times at her high school as well as the Count Basie Theatre in New Jersey and at the Portuguese Club of Long Branch.

Despite living in the United States, Júlia loves coming to Portugal every summer with her family, and loves to surf in Nazaré. When she is older, Júlia would like to be either a singer or a veterinarian.

Junior Eurovision 2023 will be coming to Palais Nikaïa in Nice, France on November 26th. This will mark the second the time France is hosting Junior Eurovision, with the first being in 2021 in Paris.

At the present time, 14 countries have confirmed their participation for Junior Eurovision 2023, with 2022 participants Albania and Serbia have yet to make an announcement on this years contest.

Kazakhstan, who have been participating in Junior Eurovision since 2018, announced their withdrawal from this years contest in Nice, whilst 2021 participant Azerbaijan has yet to make an announcement about if they will be returning this year or not.

  1. Congratulations, Júlia! Now, the EBU needs to remove stress from Junior Eurovision and bring back the rule requiring children to be involved in songwriting for the first time since 2007, which means countries that do national finals will have to reconsider the formats. I beg. I anticipate. Children should be creative. Junior Eurovision should be a songwriting competition again. Adults can’t hold 100% credit anymore. Please make it happen, Mr. Österdahl!!
