Swiss Eurovision fans are preparing to say goodbye to a beloved voice of the contest. Jean-Marc Richard, RTS’s long-time French-language Eurovision commentator, has officially announced that Basel 2025 will be his final time behind the mic.
After 35 years of commentary, Jean-Marc has become a staple in the Swiss Eurovision experience, guiding viewers through the spectacle with warmth, humour, and an unmistakable voice. In an interview with Bluewin, the presenter shared:
“Yes, it will be the last. After more than 30 years of commentary, it’s time. I hope to say goodbye properly.”
A Legacy of Eurovision Passion
Jean-Marc began his Eurovision journey in 1989, bringing his signature energy to the contest for decades. He’s witnessed Switzerland’s highs and lows, from historic results to unforgettable performances — and now, he’ll bow out as Switzerland hosts Eurovision for the first time since 1989, the very year he started.
For many Swiss viewers, Jean-Marc has been the voice of Eurovision, making the show more accessible, more exciting, and more emotional year after year.
A Personal Tribute
For me personally, Jean-Marc Richard was more than just a commentator — he was my first window into Eurovision. As a young child growing up in Fribourg, I had the incredible privilege of meeting him during a school experience called Les Zèbres. He was kind, generous, and full of life — exactly as we knew him from the screen.
Since that day, his voice became inseparable from Eurovision itself. His presence brought warmth to every broadcast and shaped the way I experienced the contest. It’s truly the end of an era.
So from the bottom of my heart:
Thank you, Jean-Marc, for all the joy you brought us.
You helped us dream, laugh, and love Eurovision just a little more every year.

What’s Next for RTS?
RTS has not yet announced who will succeed Jean-Marc as the French-language commentator in 2026. For now, all eyes are on Basel 2025, where Jean-Marc will offer his final, heartfelt commentary during the Grand Final — a poetic closing chapter to a legendary Eurovision career.
