Italian broadcaster RAI have confirmed to Eurofestivales that Italy will not be participating in the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest, due to take place on December 19th in Paris. Luca Milano, who is in charge of children’s content for RAI, has confirmed this news.
Italy’s absence from Junior Eurovision 2021 will mark the second year running that they will not participate in the contest. The country withdrew from the 2020 contest in Warsaw, Poland, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is understood that Italy have withdrawn from this years contest as they are focusing on hosting Eurovision 2022.
Italy had a very successful Junior Eurovision debut in 2014 when Vincenzo Cantiello was crowned the winner with his song “Tu Primo Grande Amore”. They have participated in every contest since then up until 2019, and have had a fair amount of success, with a further three top 10 placings.
